The girl did not forget that insult for two days and gave up her life

Karnataka is considered an education bastion for students coming from different cities of India, where the literacy rate is 75.36%. There, 83 out of 100 men and 69 out of 100 women are educated. A very disturbing and sad incident has come to light from such a state.

First let me tell you the incident. In Kadampura village of Bagalkot district of Karnataka, a student was busy in her studies. A student who did not yet have a proper understanding of worldly matters was accused of theft. It was okay till now. But what happened after that cannot be imagined at all but it definitely happened.

First she was taken to a temple and made to swear that he had not committed theft. Even after he took an oath, the school teacher and other members of the school did not find peace. And the said student was made naked publicly in the temple. The student lost her respect. People laughed a lot. And made fun of her. Even after wearing her clothes, a daughter of our country could not bear the mocking tone and sarcastic glances of the people and to get rid of this severe insult, she bid farewell to the world. She committed suicide at home by hanging herself.

The said student Manjari (fictitious name) was studying in class 8. A case has been registered against the Kadampur school teacher and she has also been arrested. But will this bring back that girl? Will her poor parents get their daughter back? Will the management of that school be saddened by the untimely departure of the girl who had not even seen this world properly? Will they feel guilty about what they have done?

That teacher could also have done this by calling the girls students whom she suspected of stealing into the personal room and checking them. Was your (the lady teacher) wisdom had gone to graze the grass? Or what were the police for? Yes, why would you tell the police, it was only about two thousand rupees. She thought she could solve the matter at school itself. But she took her to a temple located away from the school. It is being told that the same treatment was given to four other girl students but they endured this insult. But ‘Manjari’ could not bear it and went away.

Hey teacher madam, when you did not trust the girl students even after they made swear in the temple, then why did you take them to make them swear. It is being said that the girl had started feeling quite distressed after being stripped in public. The next day when she was pressured from home to go to school, she refused to go to school. Then when she was asked at home why she did not want to go, she was not able to even tell about this shameful incident. Then her parents asked her sister what happened that she was not going to school. Her sister told the whole incident to her parents. After getting information about the incident, the upset parents had reached the said school with a complaint but the administration sent them back after showing their attitude. What is the fate of the poor?

Parents also came to know about the matter. There was no shelter for the shy girl to hide on the way from home to school. Ultimately she became so stressed that she ended her life by hanging herself. On March 15, she was accused of theft in school. She could not forget this incident that happened to her on 15th March and two days later on 17th March, on Saturday afternoon, she committed suicide.

According to Times of India, Bagalkot SP Amarnath Reddy said that the elder sister of the deceased also studies in the same school. The sister of the said self-respecting girl has narrated this entire incident to the police. In this case, Kadampur school teacher Jayshree Mishrikoti and K. H. Mujhwara and other teachers are the accused. According to eyewitnesses, the student had sworn in front of Durga Devi that she had not stolen the money but the teachers did not listen to her.

This incident is certainly sad and worrying. Treating a 14-year-old girl this way is not only inhumane, but it is also a violation of her human rights. Our condolences go out to the girl and her family who lost their beloved daughter due to this unfortunate incident.

This incident reminds us how much insecurity and injustice still exists in our society. This incident tells us that we have reached a severe social decline. It is completely unacceptable and inexcusable for such an incident to happen in a school, which is supposed to be a safe environment where children learn and develop.

This incident tells us how sensitive children are. Before dealing with them in any way, be it a teacher or a parent, they need to think and understand well. We need to take children’s mental health seriously. No parent or school should become so disciplinarian that children start shying away from expressing their views to them. If the kite has to fly higher then there will have to be some slack in the rope. If your children start hiding their feelings from you, then understand that there is definitely something lacking in your guardianship. Sometimes you may have to bear the brunt of this by losing your child. Always try to provide a friendly environment to children.
